DC-DC charging
The 30A DC-DC charger is compatible with both ‘smart’ and standard alternator types and can operate either automatically, based on sensing voltage at the starter battery, or from a D+ 12V signal from the alternator (if you need to use this charger in D+ activation mode but your alternator doesn’t have a D+ terminal, you can use a D+ signal simulator). It can also be controlled via an ignition +12V signal if required, enabling battery-to-battery charging to start/stop as soon as the vehicle ignition is turned on/off.
Solar charging
Featuring a powerful built-in 20A MPPT solar charge controller capable of converting 250W of solar power, the unit will charge the leisure (target) battery from solar panels whenever the DC-to-DC or AC charging is not active. This is useful in applications where the DC-to-DC or AC charging function is not used for significant periods of time, such as when a vehicle is parked or in storage, or when supplementary charging from solar panels is needed. The MPPT technology used in this charger maximises solar energy harvest and significantly outperforms older PWM technology found in some 3-way charging products. The solar charging function can also provide a trickle charge to the starter (source) battery of up to 5A to prevent it from self-discharging.
AC charging
The 30A built-in mains charger is ideal for situations where the engine is switched off and solar charging is not feasible. When connected to an external AC power source, the unit automatically initiates AC charging, giving it priority over both DC-to-DC and solar charging modes. This ensures that the leisure battery is charged efficiently from the mains when available. Once the AC connection is removed, the charger seamlessly switches back to DC-to-DC or solar charging, ensuring continuous battery maintenance, even in the absence of a grid connection.
When paired with an optional external Temperature Sensor, the charger provides advanced temperature protection for the batteries. For Lead Acid batteries, the charger adjusts the charging voltage to compensate for ambient temperature, ensuring optimal charging and extending battery life. For Lithium batteries, the temperature sensor unlocks a charging protection that can be selected to prevent charging when below 0°C, which could damage the battery.
The charger includes ports for an optional Remote LCD Meter or a Bluetooth Module, allowing data to be viewed on an LCD display or through a mobile phone app respectively.
The main power cable connections are via M8 bolts, and other cable connections are made at a removable terminal block, which aids connection in confined spaces.
Only suitable for applications where the starter (source) and leisure (target) battery systems are both 12V DC nominal. Not suitable for 24V batteries.
